There are variations in strategies for screening methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in pre-operative patients across U.S. health care settings. The non-uniform adoption of MRSA screening protocols reflects an incomplete understanding of MRSA-related surgical site infections (SSI) and the hospital-driven impetus to identify MRSA carriers.
